The Capstone Project is the final step in the Interaction Design specialization of UCSD.

“DESIGN AN INTERFACE THAT FACILITATES PERSONAL OR SOCIAL BEHAVIOR CHANGE”

After reading the brief, I wanted to build an interface that would help people change their behavior in order to overcome loneliness. Observation, interview and reading studies in the research phase resulted in a high level strategy.

2 Design Ideas

In the next step, I created 2 design Ideas that address the chosen point of view to address a user need. The first design idea, connects people locally with similar interests, based upon who is available. The second design idea, helps schedule people their social life.

First Prototypes

After creating 2 storyboards, I built 2 different paper prototypes, each connected to the point of view. With multiple walkthroughs, in-person and online evaluation, I wrote a heuristic evaluation of both prototypes, keeping in mind the encountered issues & possible solutions. I decided to elaborate the second idea, building an app that helps lonely people schedule online dates with complementary personalities. I elaborated a digital prototype with Invision, applying the changes I wanted to implement related to the heuristic evaluation, detailed but not the polished version yet.

You can view the prototype here.

Testing and Final Prototype

First I observed 2 testers to find ways to improve the interface & I Iearned what the testers were thinking; the feedback they gave was invaluable for the next iteration.
Upfront I created a protocol, with also the steps & roles for the test execution, instructions that I would read to participants and a consent form for the participants.

In the second iteration the original prototype & a prototype with changes from the first iteration were compared in an A/B Experiment. With the feedback gathered, I decided to change the design style of the app, and also the design tool. Using Figma would give me more possibilities when designing the protype.

You can view the prototype for creating an account here . You can view how to book a date here and ho to have a date here.
